Close enough to the end of the year, and I doubt I'll be adding to it before the end of the year anyway. Time for the annual thread where you list what movies you went to in theaters.

-Asteroid City
-Elemental *
-Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny
-RiffTrax Live: Rad *

-TMNT: Mutant Mayhem
-Wish

Vintage Movies:
-American Graffiti
-Blazing Saddles *
-National Lampoon’s Vacation *
-Princess Mononoke *

What did you see?

And since 2022's thread was destroyed by the long site downtime, might as well re-post what I saw in 2022 as well: (feel free to re-list what you saw in 2022 if you want)

New Movies:
-Bad Guys, The
-Batman, The
-Bob’s Burgers Movie, The
-Jurassic World: Dominion
-Lightyear
-Minions: The Rise of Gru
-RiffTrax: Return of Swamp Thing

2023:
. The Whale (pretty much hated it)
. TMNT: Mutant Mayhem (liked it)
. Expend4bles (I can't defend it, but I had fun; this over The Whale any day for sure)
. Saw X (liked it)

2022 (for what I recall):
. Scream (V) (Liked it, saw Scream VI on streaming this year, thought that was a step down_
. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (liked it)
. Jurassic World: Dominion (pretty bad)
. Minions: The Rise of Gru (liked it)
. Avatar: The Way of Water (decent)

I was going to cinemas about once a week through 2018 or 2019, but for a mix of reasons, as you can see, that's been significantly reduced in the years since

2023:
-Super Mario Bros
-The Little Mermaid
-Elemental
-Barbie
-Wish
I saw all of these with the same friend. I might see Migration before the year ends, but who knows.

2022:
-Lightyear
-Minions 2: Rise of Gru
I saw both of these by myself. I asked the previously mentioned friend if she wanted to see Lightyear with me but she wasn’t interested. Minions was a total spur of the moment thing.

In the now, man
Due to my change in jobs, I've been able to see a lot more movies in theaters this year, a good handful of which were free from work.

New movies:

Infinity Pool
Ant-Man and Wasp: Quantumania
Cocaine Bear
Creed III
Shazam: Fury of the Gods
John Wick Chapter 4
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves
Evil Dead Rise
Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3
What's Love Got to Do with It
The Little Mermaid
Chevalier
The Super Mario Bros. Movie
Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse
The Flash
Asteroid City
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny
Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning- Part One
Elemental
Past Lives
Barbie
Oppenheimer
The First Slam Dunk
Talk to Me
The Haunted Mansion
Blue Beetle
Bottoms
A Haunting in Venice
The Creator
Sax X
Killers of the Flower Moon
Priscilla
Anatomy of a Fall
The Marvels
Wish
The Boy and the Heron
The Holdovers
Wonka
Eileen
Godzilla Minus One
Poor Things

2022 holdovers:
The Fabelmans
Corsage*
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish
RRR
The Woman King
Triangle of Sadness
Women Talking
Emily*
The Lost King*

Classics:
Oldboy
Planet of the Apes
Vertigo
The Hunger
Stop Making Sense
Prince of Darkness
The Nightmare Before Christmas

The movies with an asterisk are ones that technically came out in 2022, but I believe had their US release this year. I think this is a pretty good selection, I didn't catch everything I wanted to see, but it's a much better number than in past years. I might check Letterboxd later to see what I caught in 2022, I actually logged all of these on a calendar.

^ You're the winner so far.

I don't think I'll ever top 2013 in terms of the quantity of movies I went to. I saw a movie almost every week. Of course, that was back before the majority of streaming services, sooooo....

Went to Saw X. Hated it.

Went to Killers of The Flower Moon. Loved it.

That’s all for this year.

On the uptick though, it’s official that I’m going to see Cowboy Bebop: Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door in the following month, which has been up there on my theater bucket list since forever. Needless to say, I’m rabidly excited.

Man I totally have been washing out on viewing films since 2019. Granted so did everyone 2020 and 2021 was still recovering as well, but by 2022 and even 2023 I haven't been averaging even like half the films I was seeing the second half of the last decade. Maybe this year will be different but until then I'm going to list the 2022 and 2023 movies I saw... unless I have something specific I want to say on them I'll just grade them and quickly give the best/worst markings of the films I most/least enjoyed this year. Otherwise still have a fair amount of films to go through so let's talk about them real REAL quick. Also some of these are grades I felt in the minute so on looking back may grade them higher/lower but again not going into detail with these just getting out what I saw and what I at least at one point felt about them.

I saw The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and long story short, it was clear that Nintendo really was involved instead of just being there to reassure everyone. I even found out later that Nintendo paid for half the movie, which really says something. In any case, I was prepared to get out of there the moment the movie messed up. Fortunately, it didn’t come to that. I even went on to see it six more times, which is something I usually don’t do. This is how watchable (for the most part) the movie is.

The CSC Channels prior to 2017 were actually amazing. A shame it was all thrown under the bus.
Lesson learned. Never talk to anyone ever.
