A new season of Batwheels premieres today on Max!

bathweels.jpg

Series description: They are a team of incredible crimefighters who have banded together to oppose evil, combat crime and clean up the streets of Gotham City. They are…okay, they’re NOT Batman and Robin. They’re the Batwheels - an awesome group of sentient super-powered crime-fighting vehicles defending Gotham City alongside Batman, Robin, and Batgirl.

Having just been created by the Batcomputer, our heroes are essentially kids with little to no life experience. Led by Bam (the Batmobile), the Batwheels - Bibi (the Batgirl Cycle), Redbird (Robin’s Sports Car), Batwing (the Batwing Jet Plane), and Buff (the Bat Truck) – must navigate the growing pains of being a newly formed super-team as well as the growing pains that come with just being a kid. This relatable and aspirational series will follow the journey of this dynamic team as they thrill and entertain with their heroic adventures as well as demonstrate to kids the value of self-confidence, friendship, and teamwork.

Cast: The all-star voice cast includes Ethan Hawke (as Bruce Wayne/Batman), Jacob Bertrand (as Bam), Gina Rodriguez (as Catwoman), Xolo Maridueña (as Snowy), Jordan Reed (as Redbird), Madigan Kacmar (as Bibi), Noah Bentley (as Buff), Lilimar (as Batwing), Kimberly D. Brooks (as The Batcomputer), Mick Wingert (as Moe and The Joker) AJ Hudson (as Duke Thomas/Robin), Leah Lewis (as Cassandra Cain/Batgirl), Griffin Burns (as Prank), Alexandra Novelle (as Jetstah), Josey Montana McCoy (as Quizz), Ariyan Kassam (as Ducky), SungWon Cho (as Badcomputer and The Riddler), Tom Kenny (as Crash), Chandni Parekh (as Harley Quinn), Jess Harnell (as The Penguin), Regi Davis (as Mr. Freeze) and James Arnold Taylor (as Toyman).

Crew: Sam Register (Looney Tunes Cartoons) serves as executive producer. Michael G. Stern (Doc McStuffins) serves as co-executive producer, Simon J. Smith (Penguins of Madagascar) is supervising producer, and Steven Fink of Bang Zoom Ltd. is the producer. Based on characters from DC, Batwheels is produced by Warner Bros. Animation. Animation services provided by Superprod Studio.

Glad to see season 2 start off with the debut of Nightwing. Voiced by a Zachary Gordon and Nightbike by Nick Fisher. Perhaps more of the original sidekicks will guest start this season. Noticed in the voice credits that Redbird was recast with Titus Blake. Seems Bibi's Achilles heel will always be forgetting about all her previous lessons whenever competition shows up.

Can't wait to see Oracle and the Oracle-mobile :p.

Although to be honest it was kind of surreal watching him interact with Batgirl here because he didn't interact with Cass as much in the comics and their chumminess feels like more of a nod to Dick and Babs...also was not expecting the Nightbike to sound so much younger than the other vehicles o_O.

Oof. Well, I was thinking more along the lines of all the Robins. Come to think of it, no Commissioner Gordon or Barbara yet. No Alfred either.

What threw me was Nightbike's accent.

Also, there was a quick S.T.A.R. Labs cameo in "Follow the Bouncing Bam" - would never have known if not for that one line then I went back to the pan down shot of the building soundings its alarm and just above the doors you can kind of see the company logo.

Batwheels "Nightbike"

Awful. They actually had a character say "These banana peels are making me slip and slide." Out loud. Embarrassing.

Speaking of which Nightbike's voice is annoying,. And they never explained how he came to life.

If Nightwing is a thing, then who is Robin?

Lousy. *.

Batwheels "Bat-Light Blow-Out"

Hey, I just noticed Ace is in the main title now!

It was a cute episode. ***.

Batwheels "Kitty's Sleepover"

Kitty is a little too adorable to be allowed.

The song was great too. ****.

Batwheels "Mission: Stuffed Animal"

It's all right but the idea that Buff isn't mad because Red Bird told him the truth is a poor lesson to give toddlers, because it's patently untrue. This is a problem for ALL preschool shows, but kiddie cartoons always give toddlers an inaccurate read of how P.O.-ed friends and loves ones will be if you mess up, particular messing up against THEM. Even being honest won't always make them instantly forgive it. In fact, it almost never will. **1/2.

Batwheels "Follow The Bouncing Bam"

I like this better when it was called "Flubber".

Never mind. I don't know why I just said that. **1/2.

1/17: In one of the first articles about the show, it was stated Robin is Duke Thomas.

Duke Thomas is a newer character in the comics, been around for 10 years evidently. The short story is Joker killed his parents, bounced around in the foster system, he joined and led the We Are Robin movement, where hundreds of civilian teenagers donned the Robin R and defended Gotham in Batman's absence then he later trained under Batman. Later took on the codename The Signal and later joined the Outsiders. Has a photokinetic super power.

2/12: The first 5 episodes of Season 2 has begun airing on Cartoonito this week if you haven't watched it on Max yet. 1 episode Monday to Friday at 8:14/8:15 am eastern. Then they repeat 4 of them in a jumbled order February 19 to the 22.

46-Big Rig Bam: Pretty cool idea that the Bat Big Rig was built for Bam to use when Batman would moonlight in other cities. Interesting they managed to include a nod to Injustice. At least I think the Harley Quinn suggesting The Quiver is from the Injustice comic? Didn't realize Star City was so close to Gotham. Shrug.

47-Air-Show Don't Tell: Black Canary confirmed! Hope she appears at some point.

48-Monster Truck Amok: Ah, just like that classic tale of Androcles and the Lion.

49-Razzle Dazzle Frazzle: Alfie!

50-Multi-MOE: This is not a teensy problem! :D

The return of the conveniently slow elevator descent. lol.
