"Trailer for Bluey Special “The Sign” Released"

"A trailer for the upcoming Bluey special, The Sign, has been released.

The Sign, which premieres worldwide on April 14 and will have a run time of 28 minutes, is a special extended episode, with a runtime four times the length of a regular episode. A synopsis has not been released, but it will be preceded by a regular length episode titled Ghostbasket, which sees the return of grannies Janet and Rita, played by Bluey and Bingo, and will set the stage for The Sign.

“We’re so excited to share Ghostbasket, a brand new Bluey episode followed by The Sign which is the equivalent to nearly six Chunky Chimps!” said Bluey production studio Ludo Studio in a statement. “The crew have worked so hard on these two new episodes, making them the very best that they can be and we can’t wait to share them with a global audience.”"

I'm sooo excited for this episode! I'll probably watch it on Disney+ first thing Sunday morning. I was a little confused about why they were releasing Ghostbasket separately before this episode, but the cliffhanger ending totally justifies it. I'm curious if the 28-minute format will work for this show since the writers have never written anything over seven or so minutes.

The marketing team has been having a ball with the hype surrounding this episode. I've enjoyed seeing all of the sneak peeks and trailers for the special. If I had kids, I would totally do some sort of premiere party with the activities posted on the Bluey website.

Ahhh can't wait! I'll definitely post my review here on Sunday.

For what it's worth, Joe Brumm wants to do more long stories like this in the future. And just for the record, while there is an occasional episode with a co-writer, he is the only person who writes for the show on a regular basis.

Bluey "The Sign"

I like WATCHING Bluey, but I never binge it or review it. It's like background noise comfort food. Eventually I will probably get around to watching and reviewing the whole thing. But the truth is I like the fact that my relationship to the show is pretty casual and I don't overthink how and why I love it. I don't review Sesame Street either or binge that. It's just something nice in the background.

The show IS the best preschool show of all time, even better than Sesame Street. It gives off nothing but good vibes. And besides the little kids being so cute, their selling point is they are realistic. But the show would only be HALF amazing if that were it. The adults are equally credible and realistic, which is amazing on a TV-Y rating. Even without cursing or general soccer hooliganism the adults feel like real people with real problems. And not necessarily the people with all the answers. Mum and Dad aren't sure about the move either. And the second chance for Dad comes and he takes it to a grown-up power ballad as he rips down the sign.

And do you know what that is? Drama! I got into a recent online conversation with people who are similar to me in disdaining dark television, and don't ask to be depressed by it. But Dad throwing the sign in the street? THAT actually IS drama! And drama can make the viewer feel good. I feel very sad that pop-culture has conditioned people to believe drama is a dark and unpleasant thing and always upsetting. I find drama can be cathartic and truthful. Just because the majority of popular culture uses it as misery porn to punish the viewer, that doesn't mean that's all that drama is, can be, or should be. And I love that Bluey, the preschool show, that's secretly about teaching you to be a better parent, gets that better than any HBO Emmy bait show you can think of. I admire that and respect it. Much more importantly, I ENJOY it.

Bluey is a nice thing. And despite what you may think, and what society often teaches us, sometimes We Are Allowed Nice Things. And I love and appreciate them when we are allowed them. *****.

The News Team's Golden Geek has a new review up on the front page of AnimeSuperhero.com:

"Review: “Bluey: The Sign”: Sign The Whole Family Up"

Screenshot-2024-04-15-at-5.59.13-PM-scaled.jpg

"Unless you’re on an extended vacation under a rock, it’d be very hard to miss a certain cartoon family seemingly taking the world by storm. However, unlike the days of Simpson mania, the Heeler family caught the attention of kids and parents alike for their lack of dysfunction. The genuine warmth from their family dynamic and collaborative imagination has hit home and inspired many families, along with the series’ charming sense of humor and community. As such, the first Bluey special came with much anticipation, with watch parties and events for child and adult fans alike. “The Sign” happily delivers on the hype in possibly the series’ best episode yet, with a story that has something for viewers of all ages.

Much to the dismay of young Bluey – and likely the viewer at home – the Heeler family is selling their beloved home and moving to a new city. Bluey struggles to accept this drastic change in her life, though she’s far from the only one. Meanwhile, the grown-ups are getting ready for Radley and Frisky’s wedding, but a simple slip of the tongue leads to a runaway bride for Chili and the kids to attempt to catch. The two stories ultimately come together as the kids and adults draw the same conclusion – change is a beast of unknowns, but it’s much easier to conquer with the ones you love."

Regarding the special, I don't think I have anything profound to say that hasn't already been said. It was everything fans could have hoped for, and I'm ecstatic to see it doing so well with ratings.

That said, I wanted to share this new commercial from Ryan Reynolds and Zillow that's directly based on "The Sign." While it's not explicitly labeled as "Bluey," it's obvious that's what the ad is referring to. It's a cute and clever ad. I'm shocked it doesn't have more views.

It bugs me how when you say Looney Tunes, most people jump to the 50's Chuck Jones shorts as the default. I'm not trying to throw shade at Jones; he was great and the 50s LTs were great, but the 40's shorts shouldn't be overlooked; they're that much better IMO.
Greg Johnson currently writing on Spidey And His Amazing Friends makes me wonder why he didn't write for a Spiderman cartoon sooner given his experiences with Marvel.
I have YouTube TV instead of cable. Does that mean I won't get Me TV Toons?
I think Sailor Moon's Viz Redub should air on Me TV Toons. It's iconic and mega nostalgic, it has a huge fanbase and Arthur showed gay people are okay even on kids tv so it should be no problem.
