I guess they heard the complaints that Carol hadn't been showing enough emotion, because they use some scene where she has a nice rapport with Fury here.

Great stuff, even better. Was a little concerned before, but the banter between Carol and Fury was on point in this extended look. And that small exchange between Fury and Coulson, has to be hinting at the beginnings of an idea that will become the Avengers Initiative.
