After watching Scott Pilgrim: Takes off! I think Studio Saru is the perfect choice to headline this adaption. The trailer looks great :).

It's a Shonen Jump + series so it will probably be a big hit. Anything with the Shonen Jump logo on it is bound to be watched 10X as much as stuff without it here in the US. As with most 2020s battle shonen (except for Tokyo Revengers), it looks like it will be a lavishly animated adaptation as 2020s shonen seem to be in an arms race for which show has the flashiest visuals.

"Dan Da Dan, Science SARU’s Next Anime, Premieres This October"

dhcnoskg2.jpg

"Science SARU is an anime studio fast rising in fame after producing Scott Pilgrim Takes Off for Netflix last year. They’ve also produced Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!, DEVILMAN crybaby, and two episodes of Star Wars Visions (“T0-B1” and “Akakiri”). This year they’ll be taking on the adaption of a manga that’s also becoming popular, Dan Da Dan.

Dan Da Dan has an intriguing premise: it’s about two teenagers who are both into the paranormal, but despite this can’t get along. The problem is specific: Momo, who comes from a family of spirit mediums, believes in ghosts, but not aliens. Okarun, her classmate, is convinced aliens are visiting Earth — but thinks ghosts don’t exist."

"Catch A Theatrical Preview Of DANDADAN One Month Early"

dhcnoskg2.jpg

"One of the most anticipated anime of 2024 yet to debut is Science SARU’s Dandadan, sometimes called “Dan Da Dan” as three words (but it’s never explained who “Dan” is). It’s set to premiere globally in October, but thanks to a deal with distributor GKIDS, you don’t have to wait that long.

The first three episodes of Dandadan will be screened in movie theaters this September in what they’re calling the “First Encounter Event.” Bonus material will be included in the screening, like interviews with manga creator Yukinobu Tatsu and editor Shihei Lin, series director Fūga Yamashiro, and other people. So why should you care? Because the show just sounds awesome. Here’s the deal…"

"Gkids has just achieved a major first as an anime licensor. Most famed as the current licensor of Studio Ghibli’s prestigious library, they are going to expand their ventures into television animation, with their big catch being the Shonen Jump+ adaptation Dan Da Dan. The series will premiere at Anime NYC on August 24th at 11 AM Eastern. As part of their efforts to hype the series, the first three episodes will also screen in theaters on September 13 before the official streaming release. The series will release on both Netflix and Crunchyroll sometime in October (no exact release date yet). We have just gotten the Japanese cast and at least the lead roles of the English dub cast. Here are the castings we know:

  • Shion Wakayama (Japanese)/Abby Trott (English) as Momo Ayase
  • Natsuki Hanae (Japanese)/A. J. Beckles as Okarun
  • Mayumi Tanaka (Japanese) as Turbo-Granny
  • Kazuya Nakai (Japanese) as Alien Serpo
  • Nana Mizuki (Japanese) as Seiko
  • Ayane Sakura (Japanese) as Aira Shiratori
  • Kaito Ishikawa (Japanese) as Jiji (Jin Enjо̄ji)"
