Dragon Tales: the forgotten hit cartoon from PBS

I think Sony only holds distribution rights, and Sesame Workshop holds non-distribution rights. Not sure about the rights issues.

Boomerang (US) News & Discussion II: Rebrand

To be entirely honest i'm not sure they even will shut Boomerang down for now. I have this feeling they'll just let it rot and die in the corner. I could be wrong though. They do have Wally Gator back on Boomerang's schedule, though (as of January of this year) and I am aware Wally's been gone...

I mean, maybe they got decent ratings when it was new but not rebrand-era Boomerang.

As if Boomerang ever gets good ratings to begin with? LOL

Boomerang (US) News & Discussion II: Rebrand

Boomerang isn't gonna switch it up in the slightest. There's just no passion for Boomerang anymore. It's honestly on the same level as Discovery Family at this point, where it just needs to die already. It's a waste of a channel. MeTV Toons is already on the way and it looks to be way better...

Are there any notable child voice actors born in the 2010s? The oldest is turning 14 in 2024. Just curious. Jason Griffith was one of the only 4Kids voice actors born in the 80s (most were born in the 70s or earlier)

    The Hub's Launch in 2009

Now it's a really really sad desolate waste. It's basically watching a childhood theme park decline and rot in zombie mode, where it's not dead technically speaking but also has no life or charm anymore and feels soulless.

Nickelodeon dropped the ball HARD in the 2010s.

Also, Season 1 of SpongeBob is vastly different from the others in so many ways. Not just because it's cel-animated.

Nickelodeon dropped the ball HARD in the 2010s.

Nick did this quite a lot; this also happened to My Life As A Teenage Robot (03), which didn't air it's final episodes until 2009, and Wonder Pets (06), which didn't air it's last episodes until 2016.

Nickelodeon dropped the ball HARD in the 2010s.

Wander I rarely see get brought up anymore. I don't think most people even knew Big Hero 6 had a TV series. I'm also not sure about Star Wars Rebels; it's definitely far less remembered than the late 2000s Clone Wars TV show. Most of those are really in the camp of Sanjay and Craig for...

Nickelodeon dropped the ball HARD in the 2010s.

I mean fair enough, those shows were well liked in their time, but I do think just about all of the bolded shows have faded into obscurity. It is a testament to how much Nick dropped the ball that almost every single show they made in the 2010s was either hated with audiences or got epicly...

Nickelodeon dropped the ball HARD in the 2010s.

I mean, Tron and Motorcity didn't even last more than a season. I don't see how those were hits in any way. The others you could (I guess?) argue, but it's a bit much to mention them in the same breath as Adventure Time or Gravity Falls. I think they should've mentioned them as honorable...

Nickelodeon dropped the ball HARD in the 2010s.

CoTC is debatable but the others were definitely not that successful, they were only moderate hits at best. Kind of around the success of Camp Lazlo and certainly not as successful or iconic as the likes of Adventure Time or Gravity Falls. And sure, Gravity Falls didn't get that many episodes...

Nickelodeon dropped the ball HARD in the 2010s.

I wouldn't consider any of the shows in bold to be big hits; definitely not on the level of Gumball, Regular Show, Star Vs, 2017's DuckTales, My Little Pony FIM, or even some of the PBS shows that were still running in the 2010s, like Wild Kratts or WordGirl (although that show started in 2007)...

What would you consider the last "old-school" cartoon?

Oliver and Company IMO is the very last old-school Disney movie.
  19. CassieTheDragon

What would you consider the last "old-school" cartoon?

For cartoons overall, it was, however i'm 99% certain Robot Jones also used cel animation.
  20. CassieTheDragon

What would you consider the last "old-school" cartoon?

I know, I know. This is quite subjective (and a bit objective to an extent). I understand that cartoons that are 20-30 years old will have at least a few differences from today's cartoons. Here's where the subjective part comes in. Your definition of "old-school" will likely be different than...

Shows That Are Seen In A Better Light Nowadays

There seems to be a lot more appreciation for PBS Kids' animated programs these days. Not to say people hated them back in the day but these days they get more respect than they did previously. Arthur (96), The Magic School Bus (94), WordGirl (07) and Cyberchase (02) are the most famous by far...

Shows That Are Seen In A Better Light Nowadays

I've seen a fair bit of nostalgia for Wow Wow Wubbzy (06). Lot of people did not care for it at the time (granted they were probably parents that found the show obnoxious)

Dragon Tales: the forgotten hit cartoon from PBS

I'm kind of surprised there hasn't been at least some sort of continuation of Dragon Tales in any form. It seems like every single other big PBS cartoon (or PBS show in general) from the same period as Dragon Tales has come back in some way.

Nickelodeon dropped the ball HARD in the 2010s.

In 10 years when 2010s nostalgia really kicks in, Harvey Beaks (15) will be one of those "oh yeah, that was a thing!" or "wait, remember that show" kind of shows. Sanjay and Craig (13) will be too, for that matter.

Why is Discovery Family/The Hub no longer doing original animated programming?

I've never even heard of Blazing Team Some show for a toy i've never even heard of

Nickelodeon dropped the ball HARD in the 2010s.

Neither Dragon Tales nor Flapjack are popular shows, they're more popular than S&J but that doesn't make them all that popular either. I occasionally see them get brought up in cartoon conversation but it's sparse. Both Dragon Tales and Flapjack were pretty popular at their peak, though; the...

Nickelodeon dropped the ball HARD in the 2010s.

Yeah no way. Sanjay and Craig is no Rugrats. It's no Codename KND either. It's not even as popular as shows like Flapjack or Dragon Tales, and I almost never see anyone wearing t-shirts or clothes with those shows on there, nor bring them up much in cartoon discussion (granted, YMMV). I hardly...

I... I mentioned that people liked it. But Nickelodeon (being Nickelodeon) canned it very quickly.

Nickelodeon dropped the ball HARD in the 2010s.

Planet Sheen (10) was an unnecessary cashgrab and T.U.F.F. Puppy (10) was largely mediocre, with many cliches and jokes you've seen a dozen times before. Planet Sheen did very poorly; T.U.F.F. Puppy fared a little better but would also fade into obscurity. Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness...

Why is Discovery Family/The Hub no longer doing original animated programming?

The Hub already had an uphill battle to begin with. Cartoon Network was going through a renaissance period for their cartoons in the early 2010s, and IIRC you had to pay extra for The Hub, much like NickToons and Boomerang. Again, one hit show (MLP), maybe two with LPS 2012, vs Adventure Time...

Viewership of children's cable TV networks from 2023

Gen Alpha, born 2012 onward, was literally born into a world of streaming services. It's all they've ever known, they're the kids of today. Someone born as late as 2009-2011 could've been watching cable as a 4-6 year old. Gen Alpha did not.

Viewership of children's cable TV networks from 2023

Yeah holy crap that's bad... Dragon Tales (99) had 11 times that amount a week (11 million a week) in 2003
  36. CassieTheDragon

Viewership of children's cable TV networks from 2023

I'm not sure if those ratings are weekly or what timespan... but I added up those numbers and it came up to 944,000. Not even Nick/CN/Disney's less successful shows would get that low, normally. An average new episode of My Life as a Teenage Robot (03) or The Buzz on Maggie (05) would get at...

Roku's Kids and Family section is weird

I don't think Dragon Tales will ever "rot the mind" of anyone. It's just that the bad stuff is not only all over the place but also featured on the front page regularly, making any good shows on there harder to find.

Roku's Kids and Family section is weird

Roku Kids seems to largely be consisted of really bad knockoffs and mind-rotting cartoons/movies. There are a few good shows on there, such as Dragon Tales ('99) and, debatably, Sonic X ('03), but there's so, so much more junk. Most of the good stuff is just classic preschool shows. There is...
