MTV Poland continuities from September/October 2002 during "The Osbournes" - in the first videos (unavailable in Russia) there's at 5:50 an English trailer for "Bourne's Identity". The feed until ca. 2004/5 during ads had a habit to air during commercial breaks along Polish ads also English language ones (mainly "Pan-European" versions of movie ads):

Just before the Sejm elections, the Civic Platform announced the abolition of the name "Wiadomości" TVP. "They promised a Polish BBC, but what they got was Russia Today", said politicians of this party.

"Our interlocutors agree that this is not where changes in Polish Television should begin. It would be a visible sign of changes for public opinion if this brand ceased to exist, just as "Dziennik Telewizyjny" disappeared in 1989. However, the focus should be on changing the content", says Jan Dworak, former president of TVP. Sławomir Zieliński has echoed his words. "Talk about The name should be at the very end, because we can change the name, decoration and table, and there will be no one to run the program", emphasizes the former head of "Wiadomości".

"I want to solemnly promise that TVP can be a reliable medium. However, the TVP Info and "Wiadomości" brands, just like the "Dziennik Telewizyjny" brand after 1989, will be liquidated. They promised a Polish BBC, but they ended up with Russia Today", announced Cezary Tomczyk, vice-chairman of the Civic Platform, at a press conference organized in early October. This is the result of the inspection carried out by the Supreme Audit Office at TVP. It showed huge earnings of public television stars, worth millions.

As I said before, TVP Info has slowly became Poland's Rossiya 24 since 2016.

France Television chooses Eutelsat, to launch UHD channels.

France 2 UHD, a full-time channel, and France 3 UHD, a part-time UHD channel dedicated to broadcast special events will be distributed via satellite to terrestrial transmitters across the French region, as well as direct-to-home via the Fransat platform.

The channels will be broadcast via the EUTELSAT 5 West B satellite using the new DVB-SIS (Single Illumination System) transmission technology standard. This enables France Télévisions to use a single content source, combining distribution to both the terrestrial network backbone (DTT) and Direct-to-Home (DTH) reception via Fransat, the free-to-view satellite platform for French DTT channels. The service is scheduled to start by early 2024 ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

According to Eutelsat, UHD or 4K has an image quality four times richer than the current full HD and two times more images per second.

Jacques Donat-Bouillud, head of distribution for France Télévisions said: “With 4K standards, France Télévisions is delighted to be able to bring our France 2 and France 3 channels to our viewers with exceptional picture and sound quality. Eutelsat has provided us with an innovative and competitive solution for feeding terrestrial and satellite networks. Eutelsat’s technical expertise and quality of services were decisive for us.”

Laurence Delpy, general manager of Eutelsat’s video business unit, added: “We are honoured to have been chosen by France Télévisions for the first launch of a public UHD channel, and the first deployment of the DVB-SIS standard in France. By incorporating this mutualized approach in their distribution strategy, feeding both terrestrial and satellite networks from a single source, France Télévisions is efficiently ensuring that all viewers across the French territory can enjoy the 4K quality programmes, no matter where they are located.”

Also, Sky News transmits Sky News Today on NBC News Now, as the latter, NBC News Now, will now air simulcasting content from one of Sky News programs.

Setanta Sports teams up with Netflix.

BBC insists on not making the broadcast London centric and avoids it.

Tim Davie lead the BBC to being investigated about their changes at the first months of this year, the BBC News merger, and he said he is very happy about the changes. Let’s see what’s going to happen after making it as a NOT capital-based broadcaster.

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) is worse off now than before it received a R3.2 billion bailout from the government.

This is feedback from the Deputy Minister of Communications, Philly Mapulane (pictured), who appeared before Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Communications.

Mapulane told the committee that the state broadcaster is in a worse position than before a R3.2 billion bailout from the state.

“You will recall we supported the turnaround plan. It was implemented with the hope it would turn around the fortunes of the SABC, but the turnaround plan never turned the finances of the SABC,” he said.

“We are back to where we were, if not in a worse position than when we started with a bailout.”

Mapulane called for fundamental interventions at the SABC and told Parliament that the board was creating another turnaround plan.

SABC board chairperson Khathutshelo Ramukumba said the turnaround plan will be given to the Minister of Communications, Mondli Gungubele, by the end of this month.

During his appearance before Parliament, Mapulane also revealed that the SABC had requested R1.5 billion in additional funding from the National Treasury, which was rejected.

“The argument was that because of the macro environment the SABC has painted, operating under the environment of analogue switch off and the need for the SABC to make sure the elections are covered, we submitted a motivation to the Treasury for R1.5 billion,” said Mapulane.

“When the Minister was tabling the Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement, that allocation was not accepted, so we didn’t get what we requested.”

Mapulane is hopeful that in the next Budget Speech in 2024, the National Treasury will grant the SABC additional funding.

The SABC has previously warned that it will collapse financially if it does not receive an urgent cash injection from the government and fundamentally change its operating model.

The SABC is in extreme financial distress and could be forced to apply for business rescue, according to the group’s CFO, Yolande van Biljon.

Chaos at the SABC

Former SABC board member Mathatha Tsedu said there is chaos at the SABC, with rampant corruption and fraud affecting the company’s performance.

He said the board was forced to intervene in the company’s management to try and stop the corruption at the state-owned enterprise.

Tsedu was speaking on the back of a High Court ruling that the former interim board, of which Tsedu was a member, interfered with procurement processes that led to the awarding of an irregular security contract in 2017.

“The interim board arrived at the SABC and found so much chaos that we had to be involved in almost everything. We were almost living there and acting like an executive board,” Tsedu said.

In normal circumstances, Tsedu admitted that much of what the board did would be seen as undue interference.

However, due to the broadcaster’s extreme circumstances, the board felt obliged to interfere in the SABC management.

The board cancelled numerous contracts, including some involving the Gupta family, despite it not being the board’s duty to do so.

“We just needed to find a way of making sure that whatever plans have been put in place to facilitate corruption could not continue,” Tsedu said.

“Our position was that whatever this corrupt system we were sitting over had proposed had to be stopped.”

Despite the ruling from the High Court, “My conscience is clear,” Tsedu said. “The SIU report says that nothing untoward occurred. If I have to die, so be it.”

UPDATE/EDIT:

Teleexpress and Panorama has been changed and new studio has been debuted.

Also, Tusk on TVP changes, "It's simpler than it seems".

At Donald Tusk's conference, TVP Info reporter Miłosz Kłeczek wanted to learn how the new government wants to implement changes in Telewizja Polska. "You will definitely find out in due time", he heard from the candidate for prime minister. Tusk also suggested that TVP journalists may appear before an investigative commission, I would prefer you to stop hiding who received illegal materials from the CBA", he added. After winning the elections and forming a new government, we will need exactly 24 hours for PiS television to turn into public television. Take my word for it, it's been a few weeks. I will not reveal the details of the recipe we have prepared. We will not need a law, nor the consent of President Andrzej Duda. We have legal mechanisms, announced the former prime minister during the election campaign.

According to unofficial information from Wirtualnemedia.pl, the Minister of Culture or State Assets may convene General Meetings and put TVP and Polskie Radio into liquidation. Mateusz Matyszkowicz and Agnieszka Kamińska would then be replaced by liquidators. Currently, the boards of public media are elected by the National Media Council, dominated by Law and Justice. Her term will expire in 2028. The new Sejm could invalidate the election of its members by resolution.

Pressure for the BBC to grip crisis.

The UK government has been accused of interfering with the BBC’s independence after piling pressure on the broadcaster to grip the Huw Edwards scandal in July.

Within hours of The Sun newspaper publishing allegations that Edwards paid a teenager for sexual images, a high-ranking official all but ordered the BBC to investigate, according to emails obtained by Deadline under a Freedom of Information Act request.

The BBC is editorially and operationally independent of the government and people familiar with the corporation’s governance said it is the job of the board, not ministers, to police issues such as the Edwards firestorm.

He emailed before the BBC board had gathered over Zoom for an extraordinary meeting to discuss the Edwards issue that Saturday. Harrold replied reassuring Specterman-Green that the BBC was taking the matter “very seriously.”

A day later, culture secretary Lucy Frazer released a statement saying she had spoken to BBC director general Tim Davie about the “deeply concerning allegations.” She added that the broadcaster must be “given the space” to conduct its inquiries. Edwards was suspended later that day.

Emails between the DCMS and BBC show Frazer arranged a least two further phone calls with Davie and BBC acting chair Elan Closs Stephens in the two days following her statement.

A senior Conservative lawmaker told Deadline that the government appeared to have overstepped a boundary when it intervened in the Edwards scandal.

“There is a misplaced view among politicians who think that when the BBC is under fire like this, that somehow they have to get involved straight away,” the Tory said. “I don’t think it was done with malign intent but more a sort of naivety on the part of the government; not understanding their role and the relationship between them and the BBC.”

Tim Davie and his problems won’t be solved. He is being pressured with all issues, especially Huw Edwards’ issue and BBC News’s. Will he resign next year or will the problem be solved? Let’s see.

Polsat Media will soon take over from TVN Media ad sales for Canal+ Poland channels: Polsat Media wygrał przetarg Kino Polska TV i Canal+
To specify, the title was "Polsat Media won the tender for Kino Polska TV and Canal+", because it means that Polsat will takeover Canal+ ad sales responsibilities from TVN.

Also, SPI channels has extended license for CVDM, or maybe licensed.

In addition, ID Pan-Regional (Norwegian) has been listed:

BILD TV will cease transmission by the end of the year.

From next year, all sports content from BILD TV, will be moved to Welt (Formerly called N24).

HBO (Main Channel) license has been renewed.

It should have been done from an earlier time, January of this year, not on a later time. I preferred all HBO Europe current operations to be moved elsewhere rather than write-offs and layoff in WBD inside the US.

Al-Hadath has left Dubai and moved to Riyadh. This channel will broadcast from its new HQ in two phases.
  • 10 hours from Riyadh (9:00 KSA until 7:00 KSA), while it’ll continue from Dubai for the rest of the time.
  • Next month, it’ll air around the clock from their new HQ.

A bright future ahead for the FOX channels in Portugal as the five-year agreement to license the brand name in a state of handover reaches its close: it's official, STAR Channel is coming soon.

Yeah, I still can't believe that was a thing.
Paramount and Skydance have officially merged. Does this mean that Brian Robbins got the boot?
Season 6 of Total Drama (production code-wise), Pahkitew Island, made its American debut a decade ago.

It's my favorite season of the show (behind all 3 of Total Dramarama's) and has the best cast of the series, which includes the 2 best characters of the franchise, Leonard and Max (who should've been the finalists).

Happy 10 year anniversary to The 7D.
