Now in reference to a comment made about the viewers, I'm wondering how fans of the comic would come to the conclusion that it betrayed the tone of the comic. I mean, wasn't the comic out camping before the show came out?

Yes the comics were as campy as the show. In fact, if I remember rightly, the show's popularity helped save the Batman comics from cancellation.

I think most of the comments about how the show "isn't Batman" are more from newer fans who have only really seen the recent grimmer versions of the character. I don't think they know of a time when Batman wasn't a grim dark brooding loner.

I would like to just state for the record that Batman has always indeed been grim and serious, there never was a Zebra Batman...

I do have to ask, are you going to cover the scooby/batman ep of the new scooby movies (Hanna-Barbera's first handling of the DC heroes) or the superman/wonder woman ep of the Brady Kids (though that one may be hard to find footage of)?

My plan is to treat the Scooby Doo Meets Batman DVD as a movie/special with its own part.

The Brady Kids stuff will probably be referenced in either Superfriends or Woman Woman or possibly both, but I don't think it will get it's own part (kind of like how I did SuperPup with Superboy).

I really enjoyed that Jason Todd post. I don't get to catch up on a lot of old Batman comics but this summarization of some of his shining moments helps me to see him as more than that annoying brat I hated when I was a kid, or that annoying brat currently running around as Red Hood in the comics.

History Of Comics On Film Part 034 (Archie's Funhouse) is now up!

I've been working on a lot of the Filmation/Archie type shows over the last few months.

Just finished the first of the 4 I had been working on,Archie's Funhouse.

Also I finally get to share my new 70s Intro (which I am quite happy with).

As always comments are appreciated.

Next up will be Josie and The PussyCats. Stay Tuned!

Pretty good review. Didnt know that they actually did a little archie cartoon (though it should be noted it lasted until the early 90s: http://www.platypuscomix.net/otherpeople/archie.html (scroll to the end)), and the show itself looks to be kind of like an animated version of laugh-in only with archie characters. That "one big family" song at the end sounds like something you'd see in al hartley's spire archie comics, especially the reference to "our daddy's in the sky" (hmm, maybe hartley helped write on this show).

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the original volume of Little Archie was canceled so that it wouldn't compete with the New Archies cartoon. (though 83 is pretty early for a toon made in 88...) Then by the 90s with no New Archie cartoon, they could make that follow up New Little Archie book.

Cool page link BTW, thanks!

Part thirty-five of an ongoing series about the History of Comic Books that have been adapted for movies and television. This particular segment covers the Hanna Barbera produced animated television series Josie And The PussyCats that ran on CBS from 1970 to 1971 !

Not a big fan of Josie and the Pussycats, but this was still an interesting video. Strange that H-B got the rights to this while filmation had the rights to the other archie shows, wonder how that worked out.

I just figure it's like the different movie studios that were producing different Marvel Characters.

I don't think Josie and crew appeared regularly in an Archie Comic, whereas Sabrina appeared regularly in Archie's Madhouse and TV Laugh Out.

Probably those characters just weren't stipulated in whatever deal for rights was struck with Filmation. I mean for a while Filmation might have never ended up doing a Batman cartoon b/c of the rights with the Live-Action series being tied up, but they could still produce plenty of other DC characters.

Just wanted to let you how much I've completely enjoyed keeping up with your series.

I'm blown away by how thorough and comprehensive each segment (and the entire series) is - you seem to have invested andinsane amount of time into this, and it's definitely appreciated.

New banner looks cool also.

The New Woody Woodpecker Show was just removed from Peacock... Can this show just take a break from being screwed over?
