As fanservice goes, this show definitely could've been a lot worse.

Mika's a beast. Definitely don't fight him when he's in angry dad mode. Props to him for removing the message.

Fireworks?! And he somehow survived and not all the guns were found? Bah! Only part of the finale I really didn't care for all that much - the unstable guy with the gun in the midst of all those people. A bit much.

I'm so glad Chisato made it. lol, found because she photobombed.

Off to Hawaii? Shrug. Ok.

Season 2 coming sometime next year. Probably going to mine the Chisato drama more and we'll see if she'll be able to cheat death. This was a fun throwback cutesy slice of life with action elements. Felt like an 00s anime that came out in the 2020s. Breath of fresh air when Toonami usually seems hung up on just battle shonen. Zom 100 is another show that is diffrent from the standard Toonami show and that has also been exciting.

 

[J'onn J'onzz]

It was a fun ride, cute series with likable characters for the most part. I wasn’t familiar with the series, but it was a nice change of pace. I think toonami has had a good thing with the schedule the last few months. I know we have doubled up One Piece coming next week, but I hope we can keep a good balance between seasonal anime up front and long running Shonen in the back.

A solid show that took the 2000's concept of "Girls with Guns" and updated it for the 2020's with heart and style. The visuals and music were top tier too. Some of the story beats were recycled from other shows but I felt Lycoris Recoil managed to put its own unique spin on them.

It felt that Takina was shuffled a bit to the background in the past few episodes deposit saving Chisato from death and then reuniting with her. Supposedly they are considered an official couple by the production team. I wonder how that would be handled in season 2 or it will just be danced around in the script.

Majima was a decent antagonist even if he came off as protected by author fiat at times. As the ending shows that while he 'lost' in truth he got most of what he wanted and will be back for the rest in the near future. Considering he was based off of The Joker, a character known for getting away with outrageous crimes and cheating death at every turn this was not a big surprise. Actually Majima comes off as one of the better executed Joker expies I have seen.

I hope Toonami is able to acquire more shows in this vein moving forward as it manages to keep the bloc fresh.
