Thus ends the first special and, at the end of the day, I suppose Attack on Titan is a cautionary tale about the dangers of hatred and turning people into giant monsters.

If Wikipedia is to be believed, there will be another special coming out later this year and that, in fact, will be the long-awaited finale to the series. For really real this time. They mean it.

Yes, they've released some key art and a logline. But just today, it was hinted there will be a production update revealed at the start of next month. So maybe Part 2 will air in Japan late this year then mid-2024 on Toonami.

So, Eren is a...uh...unaliving oneself genocidal maniac (sorry, not sure if it's cool to use the S word).

It's suspicious he's the final villain of the series. They've given context for his turn and why he's doing it and sure the shoe fits but idk, there's still something about it all that still bothers me. I just can't point my finger on it yet. In a weird way, it's a very Eren thing of him to put it all on his shoulders and be obstinate about going through with the plan. It doesn't seem like a fake out that anyone else is in on. The interesting bit is the conflict has made the two opposing sides team up, albeit just a few out of survival instincts on the battlefield, like with Magath in previous episodes leading to the special but still, an alliance that seemed impossible to happen.

Yeah, Hange's sacrifice/death was a gut punch for me. Was kinda hoping she'd survive and live to be an eccentric old granny. But that was a pipe dream for this series.

EDIT: That's it I think. Arnim pointed out to Eren he could stop now and the world would sign nonaggression pacts. But Eren pretty much said that would be out of fear and all the xenophobia, racism, and hatred would still be there and the wars would continue. And he can only be stopped if they kill him. They. If the world sees them kill Eren and save them all, that's a game changer. So he's being the villain so they can be heroes and truly save Paradis. Even that general at Salta seemed to get it. Eren's their hatred coming back and marching on them.

So apparently Morocco exists in the AoT world.

So yeah, this may have been an unfortunately timed comment on my part (and it may have been an unfortunately timed day to air this episode for that matter) as the real world Morocco suffered a tragic earthquake this past weekend. I swear I wasn't trying to make light of it or poke fun or anything and my sincerest condolences go out to all those affected by the earthquake.

I kind of wish they would've just released it all at once, I personally just don't like the pacing of this episode and it just ending. I could've waited longer...just didn't feel like a good cliffhanger type of ending.

The visuals were great and we finally got to see the start of the really for real final battle in the last five minutes after lots of angsting and Hange dying. We have to wait a little until the really, for really for real climax.

Welp, this it. Ten years in the making, we finally reach the much prolonged conclusion to the show that took the world by storm (or at least the anime community).

Will Eren's plan succeed? Can anyone stop his world-destroying rampage? Will Gabi be shoved face-first through a wood chipper as she so rightly deserves? All will be revealed tonight!
