I uploaded the weird opening and bumpers of "Down Wit' Droopy D": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9INVB9-1gSw

Thanks! I haven't seen those in ages!

Even for a Checkerboard-era wrap-around, those bumpers look reeeeeallly low-budget. In 2010, they look outright dated. Pretty disorganized block too, mixing Tom & Jerry, Droopy, MGM, and '60's Hanna-Barbera shorts..........hmm, which one of those don't fit??? There already was a separate block of T&J and Hanna-Barbera shorts ("World Famous Toons" for the latter, not to be confused with "World Premiere Toons").

Still, the name and premise were humurous. Obviously trying to appeal to the early '90's Hip-Hop folk.

That was a step up from pre-CN Turner's airings of old cartoons. It seemed all shows (Tom & Jerry. Looney Tunes, etc) contained a mix of the entire library (WB mixed with MGM, etc).
Most syndicated Tom & Jerry shows had Dropy and the other MGM shorts anyway (as did the original CBS show, I think), so there was no problem with that at all. (I don't remember any HB being in it, though. Morning Crew was the one that mixed the entire library).

I think these haven't been linked here yet, something I've uploaded:

Carrot Top's Morning AM Mayhem (from a promotional tape):

Compilation of Super Chunk promos from the mid 90's:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZb9pHrWeZA

The 1993 promotional tape which I saw here linked by someone else earlier:

And someone finally uploaded again to YT the promo for the WAC! marathon:

Some more I have not been able to find:
Really early Ed, Edd & Eddy promos, like the first "remember your first wedgie; your first noogie...etc", the one with clips of various characters "they're so dreamy; you look so swave, DORKS", and then Kevin gets a wedgie.
And finally, The Edternal summer marathon, showing the marching planks. (though this one was from 2001). These do not turn up on YouTube searches, so I don't know if anyone has them on there.

Man, I can't believe I forgot all about it.........this Saturday marked five years since I first started this thread!!! :)

Time sure flies doesn't it........I remember arriving on TZ that weekend, thinking of it as another stop in my journey to find out more about "old-school" CN. Remember, YT was in its infancy at the time, and people didn't really involve themselves in the old CN outside of reminiscing here and there on message boards. CN was well into it's "City" era at the time, and the few classic 'toons left on the channel (the "Boomerang" block and "Looney Tunes) had been given the boot awhile back.

I was inspired with nostalgia for "old-school" CN after then-recently gotten back into watching "G-Force", one of my favorite shows to air on 1990's CN (hence the screename and avatar :p ). From this, my memories of watching CN during the 1990's came flooding back little by little, moreso after reading Jeff Harris' wonderful (yet slightly inaccurate :anime:) "Toonami Timeline", which covered bits of CN's history. There were little, if any old CN videos up on the 'net. The first few months in this thread were spent reminiscing and debating (info was scarce and inaccurate, even on my part). Then, a guy named "Kevin" (kevintheman23 on YT) popped up on the thread in the Spring of '06, and contributed the first substantial bits of classic CN footage via YT, arguably kickstarting the nostalgia movement (perhaps "movement" is a stretch, but y'know what I mean) we have today. His videos lit a fire under my ass and made me gush with nostalgia, and if you're still around buddy, thanks a lot.

Also, some user who seemingly came and went like a flash posted on this thread sometime in early 2006 I believe, linking me to a video clip of CN's 10th Anniversary Promo after I had asked about it (I'd only ever heard of it from Jeff's Timeline). It was, and still is an amazing promo that I'm surprised that guy managed to record, and really gave me perspective on CN's history. I made it my second YT upload when I created my account, "SuperAdventures" back in May 2006. I too, think that this promo fueled many with nostalgia, and after these contributions, and the simultaneous growth of YouTube, more and more people began sharing their collections of classic CN footage, and one of our own (abwayax) even went and created his compendium of classic CN footage in "Operation Time Capsule".

Were the many things that came from the creation of this thread intentional? Hell no. But I'm glad they happened, because as a fan of "old-school" CN, it's been a blast witnessing all these developments, and digging up and sharing whatever info and videos I've come up with as well.

Happy 5th!

The mention of the 10th anniversary suddenly made it dawn on me: we're approaching the 20th anniversary!
Hopefully that will be an occasion for CN to revisit its past in some way!

Yup, time surely flies Ace! I remember too when I started my "Cartoon Hunt" somewhat 5 years ago... there wasn't much stuff online..but I found about YouTube..and as it expanded...videos started coming. It was just so great..basically everything I have remembered was uploaded online (with the exception of a few videos). It was like a dream come true. And you contributed with others alot! So, thanks again! Now we have basically an almost complete collection of the 90's bumpers and promos (well, not entirely, but still, very promising progress). Thank you internet! :)

What I would still like to find (and I'm sure someone has it):
Fish Police bumpers and promos (from 1993, 1994 and 1997)
The Centurions bumpers and promos (from 1994, 1995)
Swat Kats bumpers and promos (from 1993, 1994 and 1995)
Captain Planet bumpers and promos (from 1993 and 1994)
The Addams Family bumpers and promos (from 1994 and 1995)
PowerZone bumpers (from 1996)

Anyways, something I've just posted to YT (for Moxy lovers):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0EbSZHOexM

Also, here is some info written to me by PrimalScreen regarding their earlier message on twitter:
"It was the Cartoon Cartoon theme and it was just for archiving purposes."

Also, I'm working on something special for all you Checkerboard/Colorful Space era lovers (including me), so stay tuned!

Thanks for the uploads. I thought I'd never see the Morning Crew intro ever again.

And, by the way, that really is high quality. I wouldn't know it was recorded by camera if you hadn't specifically said.

http://cnschedules.blogspot.com Look what i found! Detailed CN schedules from back in its beginning!

Also, I wanted to ask you if someone has the old 1998 Big Bag VHS tapes and knows if they have the byline-less old CGI Checkerboard logo in a blue background. I may buy these just to have a HQ version of it.

I first saw Cartoon Network when I was 4 (in 1999). Here was the list of the first Cartoon Cartoons I saw in order on a Saturday morning.

Cow & Chicken
Dexter's Laboratory
Mike, Lu & Og
Johnny Bravo
The Powerpuff Girls
Courage The Cowardly Dog
Ed, Edd & Eddy
I Am Weasel

P.S. I will start a CCF thread soon about the squares seen in commercials and bumpers.:general::bosko:

I remember when my area didn't get Cartoon Network until 99-2000, and I was in second grade. That morning our whole class was raving about the channel and the shows.

"Oh my god, I got to watch Powerpuff Girls last night!"
"Yeah, me too! Buttercup is awesome! And that monkey is so stupid!"
"NO, did you watch Dexter's Laboratory!?"
"The show with the smart kid with the annoying sister?"
"Yeah! Isn't it cool!? I wish I had a lab like that...well, I wish I was smart like that."
"Hey, what are you guys talkin about?"
"Cartoon Network! The new channel we got yesterday!"
"Oh cool, what channel?"
"29 for me."
"Yeah, me too."
"Oh sweeeet!"

Yup...in 2nd grade, cartoons were SERIOUS business. We also held Pokemon vs. Digimon battles at recess. And I was team Digimon :D

Season 6 of Total Drama (production code-wise), Pahkitew Island, made its American debut a decade ago.

It's my favorite season of the show (behind all 3 of Total Dramarama's) and has the best cast of the series, which includes the 2 best characters of the franchise, Leonard and Max (who should've been the finalists).

Happy 10 year anniversary to The 7D.

I wonder what cartoons Caitlin Clark likes
Xilam is one of my most favourite animation studios, I enjoy alot of their cartoons from Hubert and Takako, Oggy and the Cockroaches and Zig and Sharko. Xilam is a studio that has inspired many and has created endless classics that we enjoy.

What's your most fond memory of Xilam?
Given how Drew Barrymore's production company Flower Films has mainly made live action projects for older audiences, them producing the TV special Olive The Other Reindeer and the Netflix preschool show Princess Power are definitely quite unusual. It would certainly explain the humor of the latter.
