Unconventional or unpopular opinions you have (re: animation)

Dragon Ball, Naruto, Avatar: TLA, and Demon Slayer are pretty good action cartoons but One Piece and Fairy Tail are even better. One Piece and Fairy Tail have more fantastical themes and better more interesting worldbuilding and overall are great animated alternatives to Pirates of the Caribbean...

    Untitled Regular Show project

I miss Close Enough but Regular Show has been one of my favorite Cartoon Network shows. I get that it had the perfect ending but I’m interested as JG Quintel is returning. I would like it to take place during the 25 year timeskip shown during the ending that shows Mordecai and Rigby after their...

    “I Normally Don’t Like [x], but I Really Like [y]!”

I used to be all about comedies movies and shows including crude/sadist comedies and pretty much any kind of short form comedy. Stuff like Family Guy, Catdog, Robot Chicken and Dan Schneider’s kidcoms. These types of shows have largely fallen out of my favor as now I crave action-adventure...

PBS Kids has averted many faults of other Channels and Services.

I’ve been looking into PBS Kids and its lineup in comparison to when I grew up with it over 20 years ago. Compared to channels and streaming services by big commercial studios, PBS Kids has been surprisingly liberal in terms of the cartoons they offer, and their decisions. PBS Kids has had...

    "Comfort Cartoons" and "Comfort Characters"

My number one comfort cartoon became Moomin 1990 a few years ago when it was put on YouTube. Though some American cartoons like Summer Camp Island and Harvey Beaks are pretty comfortable, I found Moomin one of the most relaxing experiences. The characters, themes, and world are strange but...

How the Presence of Streaming Services could be Structured

I had this thought over the few years, new streaming services came up mainly dedicated ones from major studios. The thought was a major studio has it’s own service like Disney they can put all of their own content and didn’t need to pay licensing fees since they own the service. However then we...

    Adult Swim's New Kid-Friendly Direction

This. A Pokémon series with a drastic demographic increase would be difficult. Pokémon at best can only be PG at most for it’s media. I don’t expect TPCI to make an uncut redub, or release the episode featuring guns.

Bluey is a decent little kids show but it’s not as good as Sagwa, Oswald, or Moomin. I like the atmospheres in these shows more overall. Sagwa has very positive cultural representation and though it gets a little cynical, it has heartwarming characters and messages. Oswald while it looks cutesy...

    Places you miss

I miss Suncoast Video Stores. They had a wide selection of movies and shows. Some of the titles that other stores didn’t regularly carry. I’ve been there when I was a kid in the 2000’s, they had a good anime selection. My local Suncoasts closed by 2010.

Why is Discovery Family/The Hub no longer doing original animated programming?

MLP: Friendship is Magic has no Blu-Ray release only DVD and they only go up to Season 7 and the entire series can be bought on digital stores. Besides being Hasbro’s longest show FIM doesn’t appear to be in danger as a tax write off so it should be safe digitally.

No word on my area yet in Sacramento. Though regular MeTV is KCRA 3.2 with it’s main channel being the NBC station. It’s likely MeTV Toons will get carried by KCRA or it’s sister KQCA 58 which is the CW/MyNetworkTV affiliate. KQCA which used to be the WB then turned to MyNetworkTV got...

    4kids General Discussion Thread

I’m probably the biggest 4Kids fanboy, I enjoy most of their shows for what they are and I’m a big fan of the voice actors but I’ll admit they were mismanaged as an overall licensing company. I actually grew up on 4Kids and wasn’t aware of how infamous they were until after they went bankrupt...

“Dexter’s Laboratory: The Complete Series” Coming to DVD June 25th

I like how Dexter engulfs the cover, more interesting than the plain covers from Ed, Edd, n Eddy and Foster’s. Honestly though while I appreciate several cartoons recently getting their series on disc, they all seem very belated. Dexter’s Lab I think should’ve got it’s complete series released...

    Adult Swim's New Kid-Friendly Direction

Nickelodeon dropped the ball HARD in the 2010s.

The 2010’s for Nick was a downgrade from the previous decade. Though 2010 in particular I consider their worst year, some of the most infamous SpongeBob episodes, the live action Last Airbender, Planet Sheen, Fred: The Movie while Cartoon Network that year got Adventure Time, Regular Show...

I liked Dan Schneider’s shows when I was a kid and thought they were funny at the time, but after seeing the documentary I further regret supporting them, though I already lost interest after Victorious and moved on to Regular Show as my go-to comedy, and I completely passed on Henry Danger and...

Sagwa the Chinese Siamese Cat-A lost gem of a PBS Kids show

In retrospect I consider Sagwa the Chinese Siamese Cat one of the best preschool/PBS Kids shows I’ve seen. Cartoonito - News & Discussion Thread

I was hoping this whole time Cartoonito would acquire Moominvalley. It’s not blatantly educational, but it’s more similar to My Little Pony and Littlest Pet Shop. Analysis of How Japan Treats Animation in Relation to the US

Those familiar with how animation is distributed in the US notice certain scenarios. Cartoons on cable and streaming can...

My overall opinions on the Sonic the Hedgehog series: The Sonic series peaked in quality with Adventure 1&2 and the Sonic X anime. Several Cartoon Network Shows Are Getting Removed From Streaming and Purchase Entirely!

Best Buy to stop selling DVD and BD in 2024

It sucks. DVDs and Blu-Rays keep getting scaled down while streamers and digital stores can take down content as they choose. There is no way out. On the bright side, pre-owned video discs are plentiful at secondhand stores so it’s a good time to collect a bunch of them for cheap.

It’s possible to be nostalgic for works you didn’t actively grow up with. Whether it’s old works you haven’t heard of or newer works.
